FAQ
Can I purchase your pictures?
Yes, most of my images can be purchased as prints. I’m also working on a card series I hope you’ll like. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that I can get that and an easy to browse shopping section running sooner rather than later.
Until then, feel free to contact me for details directly at joy AT claygiraffe DOT com.
What do you shoot with?
What I carry everyday: Olympus c-60. Not the tiniest digital point & shoot but it has awesome macro capabilities.
Otherwise it’s a Canon XT with the following lenses: 10-22, 28-135, 100/2.8macro, L70-200
Are you an “Artist”?
I’ve actually been asked this question more than a few times, so let me answer it here.
I am a creative person and bring a particular sensibility to the things I do. I’m at a stage where I’m evolving artistically and that’s very exciting for me. But I don’t call myself an “artist”, per se.
This is no huge political stance, just a small personal one while I continue to explore what an artist is, how creativity manifests itself in what we consider “art”, what is true and beautiful. Age old questions, to be sure, but as an uneducated novitiate I start from the very bottom.
So in these quesions, my camera is my partner and a means with which to observe, learn, document and interpret my surroundings.
But to stay behind the lens is ultimately distancing for me. To truly suck the marrow out of life, I need to put down the camera, gnaw the bone and get down and dirty again.
And these are the moments I sometimes forget to shoot, forget to write. So bear with these empty spaces, I’ll try to fill those back in just as soon as I can.
